Hotel Football

Tribute Portfolio, Marriott International’s newest independent hotel brand, today announced its arrival in Manchester as Hotel Football joined its portfolio of extraordinary independent hotels. Under a franchise agreement Hotel Football remains fully owned by Singaporean business man Peter Lim and former Manchester United players Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Nicky Butt, Paul Scholes and Philip Neville. GG Hospitality, the management company owned by the same group, will continue to manage and operate the property.

Hotel Football is situated a few metres away from Old Trafford, Manchester United’s home ground and has unrivalled views of both the stadium and city. The experiential 133-room hotel marks Tribute Portfolio’s second opening in the UK as it continues to open up more choice for travellers in high-demand destinations across the continent.

“We are delighted to welcome Hotel Football as the first Tribute Portfolio property in Manchester,” said John Licence, Vice President Premium and Select Brands Europe, Marriott International. “With its playful character and bold identity, the hotel and its buzzing social spaces are a true reflection of Tribute Portfolio’s stay with character ethos.’

Hotel Football was created in 2015 by the Class of ’92: Gary Neville, Ryan Giggs, Paul Scholes, Nicky Butt and Philip Neville, a group of internationally respected former Manchester United players, considered legends of the game. Their ambition and dedication to heritage, quality and creating a winning team are at the hotel’s core, from top quality bed linen and rainforest showers, to the 70 artworks created by local University of Salford students – chosen by the founders – displayed throughout.

Winston Zahra, CEO of GG Hospitality said: “We have established Hotel Football as a very strong concept in Manchester over the past four years. This new association with Marriott International solidifies our position by giving us access to the great global system of the largest hotel company in the world. We are very much looking forward to working closely with the Tribute Portfolio team under franchise to continue to deliver the best in hospitality to our guests.”

As with all Tribute Portfolio properties, Hotel Football features unique touches that set it apart from the ordinary. Inspired by its enviable pitch side location, all 133 bright and modern guest rooms feature nods to the owners’ joint passion for football, including bespoke Class of ’92 amenities. Room categories include King, Stadium View, Squad – perfect for families of up to four – and most recently ‘The Class of ’92 rooms. Steeped with memorabilia, The Class of ’92 rooms feature the ultimate view of Old Trafford, signed shirts, Champions League medals and framed snapshots of the founders’ most memorable footballing moments.

On the bustling ground floor, the fun and relaxed Cafe Football brings together visitors to the stadium and hotel guests alike to enjoy a menu that elevates wholesome and traditional dishes inspired by the game, accompanied by an extensive list of wines, beers, cocktails, mocktails and soft drinks. Artworks by Manchester artist and illustrator Stanley Chow are hung between screens showing matches, and family touches continue with the Cafe Football sticker book for children– a nostalgic throwback to hours, weeks and months spent diligently collecting as a child.

Hospitality runs through the heart of Hotel Football. The Old Trafford Supporters Club basement event space is a retreat on match day, where a 32-foot bar and fan-art decorates the walls. Heaven, a five-a-side football pitch and event space, sits on the hotel’s rooftop with a fully retractable roof – guaranteed to make an impression during leisure or corporate events. On match days, when excitement reaches fever pitch, fans come to enjoy a drink in the Players Lounge or the prestigious Stadium Suite, where a four-course meal is punctuated by a special appearance and a Q&A session with a former Manchester United legend.
